Artist Statement

In my life I have only felt divinity in a few experiences: a crowd of people singing together, being immersed in nature, moments of intimacy, and the act of painting. Thus, my paintings exist as objects which create a gateway between my internal experience and my external reality. The results are raw and personal: a depiction of the intelligent animal.

While themes of consumerism, interpersonal relationships, and human’s interdependency with nature have always been present in the work, my education in psychology and mental health counseling has pushed issues of social justice, human rights, and environmental responsibility to the forefront of my work. In my latest collection, “Consider/ Discuss,” the work, paired with a bibliography and prompts, encourages the viewer to reflect on various interdisciplinary topics, bringing the artist’s internal experience into a collaborative community setting, promoting discourse and connection.
